Porcelain Veneers are thin porcelain shells that cover your teeth and are an excellent option if the underlying teeth are strong and healthy. They are an excellent choice if your teeth are chipped, discoloured, slightly misaligned or misshapen and ‘gappy’. Porcelain veneers are resistant to staining and are very strong.
Treatment occurs over 4 stages and local anesthetic is generally used.
On the first visit the dentist will usually take impressions of your teeth and then do a diagnostic wax up to produce a very accurate model of what the veneers will look like.
The second visit is usually called a try-In appointment where the dentist will create veneers out of tooth coloured filling material, which will be placed onto your teeth so you can see and feel what the final result will roughly look like. Adjustments can be made to the shape and size at this point.
The third visit is when the dentist will lightly reshape and prepare the teeth. An impression is then taken of your teeth which is sent to a dental ceramist/laboratory who, along with yours and the dentists input, creates the porcelain veneers. This process takes approximately 2 weeks. Temporary veneers are then placed on your teeth.
The fourth and final visit is when the beautiful hand crafted porcelain veneers are cemented onto your teeth. We remove the temporary veneers, thoroughly clean your teeth and cement the porcelain veneers.
Correct care of your porcelain veneers will ensure their longevity. We recommend twice yearly check-up and clean, along with regular brushing with fluoride toothpaste and flossing after meals to prevent decay.
